Presence Sensing Devices

Presence sensing devices such as light curtains and pressure sensitive mats are an alternative to physical safety guarding.  These devices allow for easier access to working parts of the machines.

Care must be taken when selecting a presence sensing device.  If it is not installed correctly, or the wrong device is chosen for the application, the machine could become more dangerous than without.  Presence sensing devices may create a false sense of security in some cases and a risk assessment should be completed before installing any presence sensing device.
