History of Ferndale

The original Ferndale logo

Our history begins in 1971 with the foundation of Ferndale Machinery. An enterprising businessman named Joe Mandla started the company during a manufacturing boom. He saw that there was a great need for quality machine tools. The company started in the sales and service of machine tools in a small residential garage in Montreal-North. Shortly after, the company moved into a larger warehouse where they sold and serviced NC and conventional machinery such as lathes and milling machines.

Around 2000, the company experienced a shift to machine safety and safeguarding in part due to increased customer demand for fully safeguarded machinery. Ferndale already had thousands of hours of experience working with machine operators, seeing the machinery being used in industry, and working on the machinery themselves. The transition to machine safety from machinery sales and service was seamless.

1971 -> 1972
Our story begins on Henri-Bourassa boulevard. The door lintel still has the Ferndale text visible to this day.
1972 -> 2015

2015 -> 2020

2020 -> Today
Mirabel HQ with state of the art facilities, manufacturing shop and warehouse.

The company rebranded in 2015 with a new logo, a new name, a bigger and better warehouse, and a brand new fabrication shop. The team grew from a team of four people to over a dozen, including machine safety experts, field installation technicians, engineers, designers, and fabricators.

In 2020, Ferndale Safety moved into its freshly built headquarters with state-of-the-art fabrication facilities alongside dedicated engineering offices.  Unbeknownst to everyone, it wasn’t the best time to move a whole corporation as the COVID-19 pandemic hit with a fury.  But Ferndale persevered and became stronger because of it and took the time during the COVID-19 pandemic to work hard at engineering new and exciting machine safety products, including new guarding for vertical turret lathes.

Ferndale Safety and its staff and valued customers celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021. We took the time to reflect on where we came from and revisited old memories.

Today Ferndale Safety is the leader in machine safeguarding with partners and customers across the United States and Canada. In addition to the North American market, Ferndale Safety works with customers across the globe, including Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
