Are you asking yourself, “why in the heck would my machine start by itself?”  Here is a rundown:

Some machines are wired in the same way a light switch is set up at home.  You turn on the light and it stays on, until you turn it off, it burns out, or it loses power.  We don’t mind if a light turns back on after a power outage but we certainly wouldn’t want a dangerous machine to do the same thing.

Anti-restart protection means that a machine won’t start automatically by itself without human intervention.  You wouldn’t want your drill press to start up by itself, would you?  What if someone decided to remove a drill bit when the power came back on all of a sudden?  Let’s not dwell on what could happen but instead, make sure that it doesn’t happen in the first place.  Ferndale Safety has a variety of electrical upgrade devices that prevent dangerous restart situations.

Do I need Anti-Restart Protection?

Many machines already have protection against restarting by themselves. To check if your machine is already safe try to do the following:

  1. Turn on the machine and let it run.
  2. Unplug the machine from it’s power source or turn it off at the circuit breaker.
  3. Once the machine stops, plug it back in, or turn on the circuit breaker.
  4. The machine should stay off. If it doesn’t, keep reading.  You will need to upgrade the electrical system of your machine.
